About Quwwat-ul-Islam
A centre of excellence for Islamic learning and practice in Forest Gate, East London
Our Mission & Vision
All Praise be to Allah the most Beneficent and the Most Merciful.
The Quwwat-ul-Islam Society aims to be regarded as a community which is making a positive difference within society. Our vision is to become a centre of excellence for Islamic learning and practice — providing a beacon for both Muslims and other faith communities.
All proceeds from donations go towards the upkeep of the Masjid and helping us to serve the wider community.
Our History
The Quwwat-ul-Islam Society was established in 1975, initially hiring a hall at Trinity Church Hall in East Street, Manor Park, to provide Friday prayers and Islamic education for children.
In 1984 and 1986, the Society acquired properties on Upton Lane and Skelton Road in Forest Gate, establishing its main Masjid at 62–66 Upton Lane — the home it continues to serve the community from today.
In 1999, the Society acquired land at 16 Chaucer Road, Forest Gate, to expand its educational provision. A Girls' Primary School opened in August 2003 with 50 pupils, growing to over 112 students within two years. A secondary school followed in 2005, both registered with Ofsted. An Alimah programme — a seven-year Islamic studies course for women — launched in 2006, serving approximately 110 students.
